Local Committees Learning Event

 On 12 September 2015, Palestinian Vision Organization under the Tajaawob program held the very first local committees learning event, which aimed to disseminate learning and reinforce the role of local committees in bridging the gap between decision-makers and the communities.

 

One hundred participants from seven local committees under Tajaawob attended the learning event. These local committees are: Qalqiliya, Al-Quds, Habla, Um Salamona, Furush Beit Dajan, Azzoun, Mughraqa and Malalha (Gaza). Representative from the authorities also attended the event to discuss social accountability and the work of advocacy Tajaawob’s local committees as well as participate in a Q&A session with the committees. Representatives from the authorities that attended the learning event are Moammer Ishtawy – Head of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Samir Dawabsheh – Head of Local Government Office in Nablus, Ministry of Local Government, Khalid Al-Kukhun – Head of Social Affairs Office in Salfit, Ministry of Social Affairs.

 

The event began with presentations from the local committees where they illustrated their experience in Tajaawob and the work they have accomplished on the two previous advocacy campaigns in addition to their future plans for the new campaign. During the second part of the event, the Tajaawob committee-members were distributed into groups in order to conduct thematic debates/open discussions with the goal of disseminating learning.

 

Tajaawob is a program that promotes active citizenship that might lead to increased responsiveness from the authorities to the needs of the communities.
