Capacity Building of Local Committees Debates Training

 Capacity Building of Local Committees

Debates Training

In December 2016, Palestinian Vision Organization (PalVision), under the Tajaawob program in partnership with the British Council and AMAN, and funded by Department for International Development (UKaid), organized training on debates in Bethlehem. The training is part of Tajaawob’s approach to build the capacities of local committees in order to enable them to design and implement effective advocacy campaigns that address priority issues and needs in the targeted areas within the framework of reinforcing the concept of social accountability.

The debates training introduced the main concepts of debating and their working mechanisms as well as building debate teams. During the training there were practical debates between the participants from the local committees to practice the actual debate structure.

The training targeted around 40 representatives from all Tajaawob’s local committees seeking to rehabilitate and empower the participants of the local committees in order to implement effective advocacy campaigns in their respective communities.

Alaa Saffouri, Tajaawob’s Project Coordinator with PalVision, said that “the capacity building trainings of the local committees are considered one of the most important experiences that improve the skills of the participants in different subjects such as debates and enable them to develop their critical and analytical thinking skills; accordingly, aid them in addressing decision-makers through their advocacy campaigns.”

Tajaawob’s local committees are seven; Azzoun, Hableh, and Qalqiliya City in the Governorate of Qalqiliya, Um Salamona in the Governorate of Bethlehem, Furush Beit Dajan in the Jordan Valley, Jerusalem, and Gaza. The local committees implemented various advocacy campaigns targeting different decision-makers in the Palestinian Authority. Currently, each committee is working on its own advocacy campaign.
